20 years of continuous innovation
Seongnam Dentist Opening
Three appointments hung on the wall of a small Seongnam dental office.
‘Don’t overdo it’, ‘Don’t harm your teeth’, ‘Treat without pain’. These simple, yet essential promises are later expanded upon in the
At the time, many patients were afraid of going to the dentist and found it difficult to find time
in their busy lives. I understood this difficulty and tried to fit
into their lives by offering painless treatments and night clinics. This commitment to putting patients first became the basis for
becoming a recognized dental practice in the Seongnam area through word of mouth.
Meet CAD/CAM
As a dentist craving a new challenge, I came across CAD/CAM equipment for the first time at my junior’s new practice.
Watching the digital scanner take the pattern and the milling machine carve out the prosthesis with precision was a big shock.
I knew instantly that “this is the future of dentistry,” and I immediately brought in equipment, constantly testing it and exploring the possibilities of this new practice. This serendipitous encounter changed the course of my dental life forever.
Transforming one-day care
Convinced of the potential of CAD/CAM, he opened ‘Today Dental Clinic’ near Seolleung Station in Gangnam.
As the name suggests, one-day treatments were key.
Digital scans instead of uncomfortable impressions added comfort, and painless treatments improved the patient experience.
It was very satisfying to be able to address the needs of patients.
Rediscovering the value of tooth preservation
In Gangnam, a neighborhood with strong aesthetic desires, laminate was naturally common.
More and more patients were seeking treatment that involved the removal of healthy teeth for cosmetic reasons, and as a doctor, I was deeply troubled.
“Is this the right treatment?” and “Is this something I would recommend to my family?” were the questions that kept running through my head.
Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I wouldn’t recommend a treatment to a patient that I wouldn’t recommend to my own family, and I began to research in earnest: “How can I minimize the amount of teeth that need to be shaved?” This moment of reflection was the seed of Minish.
Conceptualizing and fully researching Minish
After researching treatments that were both aesthetic and functional without sacrificing healthy teeth, we created a new restorative treatment concept called Minish.
To make this happen, we recruited a talented ceramist and established an on-site qigong studio.
Evolution of Minish Restorations
We have been constantly developing techniques to fabricate ceramic restorations that are extremely thin, yet have similar properties to natural teeth,
and bond them together. It has been a journey of pushing the limits of conventional dental care and opening up
new possibilities.
This led to the development of Dual Minish in 2014, Pink Minish, Minish Bridge in 2015, and Molar Minish in 2017,
and in 2017 we perfected the Minish One Day System.
Incorporating biomimetic theory
Based on Minish research and clinical experience, we established a 14-story Minish Dental Hospital in Nonhyeon-dong.
As I continued to ponder the intrinsic structure of the tooth in my numerous clinical experiences, I came across the theory of biomimicry.
The philosophy has expanded to restore dentin with resin and enamel with minish blocks, just like natural teeth, which are composites
Now minish has a deeper meaning as a dental treatment that restores the essence of the tooth, rather than just a cosmetic procedure.
Focus on high-need care
As Minish’s clinical experience grew, he took on more challenging cases From being limited to the incisors,
he expanded to all teeth, including the molars Once the molar Minish was clinically safe,
full-mouth restorations were possible in just two days As Minish accumulated more than 10,000 cases a year and solved
difficult cases, Minish matured beyond a treatment into a systematic dental philosophy.
Founded Minish Technology
He decided that a dental clinic alone could only go so far. He founded Minish Technology, which develops technologies, materials, and systems to make the philosophy of “my teeth last a lifetime”
more widely realized.
He moved beyond his role as a dentist to take on a new challenge as a medtech entrepreneur.
It was the first step toward a bigger dream: to give the gift of healthy teeth to more people than just one patient.
Hosted the 1st Minish Academy (now Minish Course)
To help dentists across the country learn and apply the Minish treatment, we officially launched the Minish Course.
The course taught the entire solution, from the philosophy of Minish to the treatment process, precision machining and bonding techniques.
Doctors who completed the Minish Course were vetted, signed up as Minish Providers, and performed
Minish treatments in their own clinics.
Minish Nationwide Spread
A steady stream of academy graduates were active in signing up as Minish Providers.
By the end of the year, 23 had signed up, and Minish was spreading across the country, including Seoul, Suwon, Busan, and Jeju, while
spreading the philosophy of keeping natural teeth healthy for longer. The following year laid the foundation for Minish’s global expansion.
